Gift Ideas for a Capricorn: 12 Presents, Reviewed by Cap the Goat Looking for gift ideas for a Capricorn? Buying for a Capricorn (22 December – 19 January) is a serious business. A Capricorn won’t judge your present. They’ll assess it. Quietly. Then they’ll use it every day for eleven years, and tell you it was a sound decision. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, planet of hard work and long-term plans. Capricorns set goals, climb towards them and don’t stop until they’re at the top, admiring the view and planning the next mountain. Their Astrominal is Cap the Goat, who wears a chunky knit turtleneck and has never once taken the easy path. We asked Cap to review twelve gift ideas. Cap gave each a score out of ten and a short written report. We’ve summarised. 1. A five-year planner One page per day, five years per book. Cap says: “Year one: preparation. Year two: progress. Years three to five are already written in. In pencil. I’m flexible.” 2. A really good watch Classic, reliable, built to last. Cap says: “Time is the only thing nobody can make more of. So I like to know exactly how much I’ve got left. Of today. Don’t look at me like that.” 3. A day of indoor climbing A wall, a summit, a sense of achievement. Cap says: “Goats were born for this. Other climbers use ropes. I use determination. And also a rope. Health and safety.” 4. A chess set The game of long-term strategy. Cap says: “I’m thinking eight moves ahead. You’re thinking about lunch. That’s fine. I’ve planned for that too.” 5. A leather satchel For carrying important things to important places. Cap says: “It has compartments. Compartments are just ambition with zips.” 6. A biography of someone who made it An inventor, an explorer, a builder of big things. Cap says: “I read biographies backwards. Start at the success. Work out how. Take notes.” 7. A piggy bank A classic, for the sign that understands compound interest at the age of seven. Cap says: “Every coin is a step up the mountain. Small steps. Lots of them. It’s not exciting. That’s why it works.” 8. A framed mountain print A reminder of where they’re headed. Cap says: “I’ve hung it facing my desk. Every morning I look at it, and it looks back, and we both get on with it.” 9. A proper coffee machine Fuel for the early start. A Capricorn’s day begins before yours. Cap says: “I’m up at six. The coffee is up at five fifty-nine. Teamwork.” 10. A cosy turtleneck jumper Smart, warm, and frankly the Cap signature look. Cap says: “It’s practical. It’s professional. It’s also very soft. I’ll deny saying that last part.” 11. A ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign For the Capricorn who’s working on something important. Which is always. Cap says: “Finally. Something that says no on my behalf. Very efficient.” 12. An Astrominals Capricorn birthday card Whatever you choose, put it with a card that gets them. The Astrominals zodiac birthday cards feature Cap climbing an impossible peak, framed by a border of true-to-sign Capricorn traits. Cap says: “Accurate. The peak was impossible. I climbed it. Ten out of ten. I don’t give those out lightly.” Cap’s three rules for buying a Capricorn a present Buy quality. “Buy cheap, buy twice. I’d rather have one thing that lasts than three that don’t.” Make it useful. “If I can’t use it, I’ll admire it. Briefly. Then it goes in a box marked ‘Admired’.” Respect the goal. “Ask me what I’m working on. Then buy something that helps. That’s the best present anyone can give.” So, which present would Cap choose? Cap says: “The five-year planner. I’ve already pencilled in next year’s birthday. I’ll be expecting a watch strap.” Not sure which Astrominal you’re buying for? Relationships with a Capricorn

Capricorn Compatibility: How Cap the Goat Gets On With Every Star Sign We asked Cap the Goat, the Capricorn Astrominal (22 December – 19 January), how Cap gets on with the other signs. It came back as a quarterly review, with targets, ratings out of ten and “areas for improvement” for every sign. We’ve left the ratings in. Cap insisted. Cap + Arri (Aries) Arri wants to go through the mountain. I want to go up it, carefully, with a plan. We both reach the top. I’ve made a spreadsheet of the rocks he broke on the way. Rating: 6/10. Strong energy. Must read the instructions. Cap + Taur (Taurus) Taur keeps everything calm, I keep everything moving. Together we’ve built a very efficient farm. Taur has built a very efficient nap. Rating: 9/10. Reliable. Would hire again. Cap + Gem & Eye (Gemini) They change their plans more often than I check my emails, and I check my emails a lot. I’ve started a folder called “Gem & Eye: Changes”. It is now my biggest folder. Rating: 5/10. Excellent communication. Too much of it. Cap + Canny (Cancer) My opposite sign. I climb the mountain, Canny stays at base camp making soup. I don’t need the soup. I always drink the soup. Canny knows. Rating: 8/10. Soup quality: outstanding. Cap + Leo (Leo) We both want to be in charge. I do it by working very hard. Leo does it by being very shiny. So far the board can’t decide. Rating: 7/10. Good leadership. Too much glitter in the budget. Cap + Virgo (Virgo) Virgo has systems, I have goals. We once planned our plans, and then made a plan for reviewing the plans. It was the happiest week of my life. Rating: 10/10. A perfect colleague. Already filed. Cap + Libby (Libra) I say, “Do it now.” Libby says to everyone, “What Cap means is, whenever’s lovely, but now would be lovely.” Everyone does it now. And smiles. I don’t know how she does it. Rating: 8/10. Diplomacy department, highly effective. Cap + Score (Scorpio) Score always has a backup plan for my plan. Together, we could run the world. We’ve drawn up the organisation chart. Just in case. Rating: 9/10. Strategic. Slightly frightening. Cap + Sagg (Sagittarius) Sagg wants a different mountain every day. I want one mountain, done properly. We’ve now climbed seven together, because I refuse to let Sagg get to a summit first. Rating: 6/10. Fun. Unpredictable. Never has a map. Cap + Cap (Capricorn) Two goats, two to-do lists, and a race to see who can finish first. We both finished on Wednesday. It was due Friday. Rating: 10/10. Obviously. Cap + Aqua (Aquarius) Aqua invents the future. I work out how much it costs. Her last invention would have cost one billion pounds and done the washing-up. Rating: 7/10. Brilliant. Must submit a budget. Cap + Pike (Pisces) Pike drifts, I climb. Pike reminded me to stop and look at the view from the top. I hadn’t looked at the view in eleven years. It was quite nice. Rating: 8/10. Unexpected benefits. Cap’s sign-off: If you’ve got a Capricorn in your life, we’re not bossy. We just have better ideas, and we’ve already written them down. Work hard, be on time, and you’ll have a friend who’ll climb any mountain with you. Want more Cap? Read The 10 Best Things About Being a Capricorn. The 10 best things about being a Capricorn

The 10 Best Things About Being a Capricorn, by Cap the Goat We asked Cap the Goat, the Capricorn Astrominal, to write a list of the ten best things about being a Capricorn (22 December – 19 January). Cap sent it back a day early, with a contents page and a short summary at the top that said: “Capricorns: very good. Details below.” 1. We set goals, and reach them Other signs say “one day”. Capricorns say “Thursday”. Then it’s done by Wednesday. 2. We’re excellent climbers Goats can climb cliffs that look impossible. Capricorns climb problems that look impossible. Same technique: one careful step at a time. 3. We’re dependable Need something done properly? Ask a Capricorn. We’ll do it right the first time, so nobody has to do it twice. 4. We’re ruled by Saturn Saturn is the planet of hard work, patience and very impressive rings. We’d like to point out it has a lot of rings. It earned them. 5. We’re secretly very funny Capricorns have the driest sense of humour in the zodiac. You might not notice the joke. That’s part of the joke. 6. We get better with age Capricorns are born a bit grown-up and then get more relaxed every year. By ninety we’ll be the life and soul of the party. 7. We’re good with money Every penny counts. A Capricorn’s piggy bank is never empty. It’s also labelled, and has a five-year plan. 8. We’re patient The mountain isn’t going anywhere. Neither are we. We’ll get to the top. We’ve packed a sandwich. 9. We’re loyal A Capricorn doesn’t make friends quickly, but when we do, it’s for keeps. We’ll still be there in forty years. Probably organising the reunion. 10. We finish things The last page of the book. The last bit of the jigsaw. The last step to the top. Capricorns don’t stop at nearly. Cap says: “Ten points, delivered as promised. Next year: twelve. I’ve already drafted them.” Think you might be a Capricorn at heart? Take the quiz, or meet Cap the Goat and the rest of Team Earth. Astrological and zoological. Illogically logical.
