Gift Ideas for a Cancerian: 12 Presents, Reviewed by Canny the Crab Looking for gift ideas for a Cancerian? Buying for a Cancer (21 June – 22 July) is lovely, because they’ll treasure whatever you give them. Literally. They have a drawer of treasured things. It includes a cinema ticket from 2009 and a pebble from a nice afternoon. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, and feels things deeply. Home, family, friends and memories matter more to a Cancer than anything with a price tag. Their Astrominal is Canny the Crab, who takes home everywhere and has feelings in both claws. We asked Canny to review twelve gift ideas. Canny cried at four of them. Happy tears. Mostly. 1. A photo album of you two Printed photos, real pages, captions in your handwriting. Canny says: “Oh no. Oh no, that’s the beach day. I’m fine. I’ve got something in my eye. It’s a feeling.” 2. A blank family recipe book Somewhere to keep Nan’s crumble and the soup that fixes everything. Canny says: “Recipes are just love with measurements. Some of Nan’s measurements were ‘a bit’. I’ve written down ‘a bit’.” 3. A really soft throw For wrapping up in, and for wrapping other people up in. Canny says: “Is this for me? Or is it for when someone visits and they look cold? It’s both. It’s always both.” 4. A star map of a special night A print of the sky as it looked on a birthday, a wedding, or the day you met. Canny says: “That’s the actual Moon? From that actual night? I’m going to need a minute. And a frame. And another minute.” 5. A memory jar A jar of folded notes, each one a favourite moment you’ve shared. Canny says: “I’ll read one a day. No. I’ll read them all tonight. Then I’ll read them again. Then I’ll ring you.” 6. A houseplant that needs looking after Cancers like caring for things. Give them something to care for. Canny says: “I’ve named it already. It’s called Gerald. Gerald is doing very well, and I’m proud of him.” 7. A slow cooker For the Cancer who feeds everyone who walks through the door. Canny says: “Stew for six. There are three of us. That’s fine. Someone always turns up.” 8. A family games night box Board games, snacks and an evening with everyone round one table. Canny says: “I don’t mind who wins. I mind that everyone’s here. Also I’m quite good at it. Also I mind a little bit who wins.” 9. Something handmade A drawing, a knitted thing, a wonky clay bowl. Canny says: “You made this? With your hands? It’s going on the shelf. It’s going on the GOOD shelf.” 10. A candle that smells like home Cotton, fresh bread, warm vanilla. Canny says: “Home already smells like home. But now it can smell like home twice.” 11. A day out for the whole family A picnic, a seaside trip, anywhere everyone can come. Canny says: “I’ll bring sandwiches. I’ll bring a spare cardigan for whoever forgets theirs. Someone always forgets theirs.” 12. An Astrominals Cancer birthday card Whatever you choose, put it with a card that understands them. The Astrominals zodiac birthday cards feature Canny, making a cosy space for everyone Canny loves, framed by a border of true-to-sign Cancer traits. Canny says: “I’m keeping it forever. In the drawer. With the pebble.” Canny’s three rules for buying a Cancer a present Make it personal. “I’d rather have a note you wrote than a voucher you bought.” Remember things. “If you remember something I said once, that’s the present. The rest is wrapping.” Hand it over in person. “Then I can hug you. You’ll be hugged. Prepare yourself.” So, which present would Canny choose? Canny says: “Honestly? I’d just like everyone round for tea. And maybe the photo album. And maybe a tissue.” Not sure which Astrominal you’re buying for? Take the quiz, or meet Canny the Crab and the rest of Team Water. Astrological and zoological. Illogically logical.

Relationships with a Cancerian

Cancer Compatibility: How Canny the Crab Gets On With Every Star Sign We asked Canny the Crab, the Cancer Astrominal (21 June – 22 July), how Canny gets on with the other signs. Canny said yes immediately, then worried for two days about hurting anyone’s feelings, then sent this with a homemade card for every sign. Canny + Arri (Aries) Arri knocked my sandcastle over. Then he said sorry so loudly the seagulls left. I built him his own sandcastle. He knocked that over too, but very gently. Verdict: I’m teaching Arri to slow down. It’s a long course. Canny + Taur (Taurus) I cook, Taur eats, I cook more. I’ve never felt so appreciated. Taur has never felt so full. Verdict: the cosiest kitchen in the cosmos. Canny + Gem & Eye (Gemini) They chat about everything. I want to talk about how everyone’s feeling. They’re very good at listening, for about four seconds at a time. Verdict: a lot of fun, and a lot of soup. Canny + Canny (Cancer) Two crabs, one shell. We keep bumping into each other and saying sorry. Then we cry because the other one said sorry so nicely. Verdict: lovely, but nobody can see out of the window for the steam. Canny + Leo (Leo) Leo loves an audience, and I’m the best audience there is. I clap at everything. I clapped when Leo sneezed. Verdict: Leo feels like a star. I feel useful. Win-win. Canny + Virgo (Virgo) Virgo organises my scrapbooks. I make Virgo a cup of tea when it all gets too much. We both worry. We worry together, which is nicer. Verdict: a gentle, thoughtful team. Canny + Libby (Libra) Libby hates arguments. I hate arguments. If anyone raises their voice, we both hide, Libby behind one leg and me in my shell. Verdict: a very peaceful household. Very quiet. Canny + Score (Scorpio) Fellow water sign. Score is tough on the outside, soft on the inside. So am I. Score would never admit it. I already have, in a song. Verdict: loyal for life. Canny + Sagg (Sagittarius) Sagg wants to explore the world. I want to stay home and make it cosy. Sagg comes back with stories, and I’ve always got a hot chocolate ready. Verdict: I’m Sagg’s home base, and I love it. Canny + Cap (Capricorn) My opposite sign. Cap climbs the mountain, I stay at base camp making soup. Cap pretends not to need the soup. Cap always drinks the soup. Verdict: opposites who look after each other. Canny + Aqua (Aquarius) Aqua invented a machine that gives hugs. I tried it and said, “Thank you, it’s lovely,” then gave Aqua a real hug. Aqua is now redesigning the machine. Verdict: we’re working on it, together. Canny + Pike (Pisces) Pike and I can sit together for hours without saying a word, and both know exactly how the other is feeling. Verdict: the gentlest friendship in the sea. Canny’s sign-off: If you know a Cancer, tell them you appreciate them. Then do it again tomorrow. We’ll pretend you don’t need to. We’ll keep the card forever. Want more Canny? Read The 10 Best Things About Being a Cancerian. The 10 best things about being a Cancerian

The 10 Best Things About Being a Cancer, by Canny the Crab We asked Canny the Crab, the Cancer Astrominal, to write a list of the ten best things about being a Cancer (21 June – 22 July). Canny said yes straight away, made everyone a cup of tea first, and asked if we’d eaten. 1. We look after people If you’re poorly, sad or just a bit tired, a Cancer will notice before you do. And then there will be soup. 2. Our home is our happy place A crab carries its home on its back. A Cancer makes everywhere feel like home. Even a tent. Even a waiting room. Give us five minutes and a cushion. 3. We remember everything Your birthday. Your favourite colour. The thing you said in Year 3 that made everyone laugh. It’s all in there, safely stored. 4. We’re ruled by the Moon The Moon moves the tides, lights up the night and looks after the sea creatures. It’s basically a Cancer in space. 5. We give the best hugs Both claws. Proper squeeze. Comes with a pat on the back. Five stars. 6. We’re tougher than we look Hard shell, soft middle. People think the soft bit is the weakness. It isn’t. It’s the reason the shell is there. 7. We feel things deeply Happy films, sad films, adverts with puppies in. If it’s got a heart, a Cancer will feel it. That’s not a weakness either. Hang on. I need a tissue. 8. We’re incredibly loyal Once you’re in a Cancer’s circle, you’re family. You’ll get a Christmas card. You’ll get a birthday card. You might get a card for no reason at all. 9. We know what people need Sometimes it’s advice. Sometimes it’s a sandwich. A Cancer can tell the difference before you’ve said a word. 10. We make everyone feel welcome New kid at school? Sit with the crab. We’ve saved you a seat. We always save a seat. Canny says: “That’s ten lovely things. Now, has everyone had a biscuit? I made extra. I always make extra.” Think you might be a Cancer at heart? Take the quiz, or meet Canny the Crab and the rest of Team Water. Astrological and zoological. Illogically logical.
